Samsung says iPhone owners are ‘Wall Huggers’ in new Galaxy S5 ad

Thanks to the Samsung Galaxy S5’s power saving mode, you can squeeze out more juice for hours from a battery that is about to go dead. If ever the battery of the smartphone dies on you, you can always replace it with another fully charged battery since its batteries are removable. Sadly, this isn’t the case with the iPhone, with iPhone users having to plug in their phones whenever the battery runs out. Samsung capitalised on this fact and calls iPhone suers “Wall Huggers” in its new Galaxy S5 ad.

According to a report, the Samsung Galaxy S5 may be priced lower than rival smartphones or as much as what the Samsung Galaxy S4 currently costs.

The news comes to us courtesy of Korean-speaking ZDNet Korea, which was spotted by PhoneArena. According to the site, “Now that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is official, Korean media once again reiterates that it might be priced lower than the direct competition, like, say, the Sony Xperia Z2.”

It adds, “We’ve heard Bloomberg spread the “more affordable” rumor before, and at the time it stated that Samsung is still negotiating prices with carriers, mulling whether to price it lower than its usual flagship launch tag. Now, whether that means it’s the carriers that will bear the brunt of the Galaxy S5 subsidies, and the end user will get it for cheaper than the usual $200 on contract, remains to be seen.

“Alternatively, Samsung might decide to ship it for less to carriers as well, eating some margin spread, and passing the savings down to consumers.”

If this rumour is true, more consumers are likely to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S5 compared to the competition.

Octa-core Samsung Galaxy S5 revealed in Samsung infographic

Earlier, Samsung showed us how its S line has evolved in an infographic. That infographic also revealed that Samsung does have a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5 sporting an octa-core processor.

GSMArena reports, “Turns out, there will be an Exynos variant of the Galaxy S5. According to a blog post by Samsung (which has now been redacted for some reason), the company will offer a 2.1GHz octacore variant of the Exynos SoC for the Galaxy S5.”

Here’s the original infographic:

It notes, “It is unclear whether this will be limited to select markets or if Samsung will adopt its previous strategy of keeping the Qualcomm model US exclusive and offer the Exynos model in all other regions. If that is the case, hopefully the Exynos model won’t lack any major features, such as 4K video recording, the way it did on the Galaxy Note 3.

“The exact Exynos model is unknown. We will probably find out more when Samsung announces it officially, along with its availability on the S5.”
