Interested parties in the UK can now pre-order the BlackBerry Priv, which will start shipping on the 9th of November. We’ve learned that the device’s edged screens are not there only for show, but actually function like the edged screens of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. We’ve learned from past reports that the screens can show things like the device’s battery life, but what other data can it show? Thanks to a simulator that momentarily went live, we now know what the edged screens can do.
The screenshots of the simulator seen above comes from Telus, one of the major carriers in Canada. The BlackBerry Priv features an edged 5.4-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels, and offers a number of features like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The simulation reveals that the Productivity Edge shows things like notifications, messages, the calendar, and more. It can also show the battery’s status while charging. The Priv can be setup to show notifications either on the left or right side of the device.
The SIM free version of the BlackBerry Priv is available from BlackBerry UK for £559.00 (VAT included). It will start shipping out to individuals who pre-ordered the device on the 9th of November.
Other BlackBerry Priv specs include an 18-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-flash camera, OIS, and is certified by Schneider-Kreuznach and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for snapping selfies and video chat. It comes with 32 GB of internal storage, but if this isn’t enough you can always make use of a microSD card (as much as 2 TB). Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor (two cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, four cores clocked at 1.44 GHz, and an Adreno 418 GPU to handle graphics), coupled with 3 GB of RAM. To keep the lights on, the listing reveals that the device will sport a 3,410 mAh battery that offers longer battery life. It runs Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) out of the box.
An early warning system called DTEK is on board the BlackBerry Priv, which warns users when their privacy has been compromised.
