A GPS enabled device with WiFi the Palm Pre makes the most of Synergy data integration pulling together contacts and calendars from different sources by pre linking and displaying the information in one place whilst conversations over SMS or Instant Messaging are grouped together by person.  Palm Pre users can also keep multiple applications open at any one time using the ‘Activity Card’ system.  Simply drag an application onto your phone’s desktop to create a new card and close it when you no longer need access to it by flicking the card upwards.

Like the T-Mobile G1 phone and Apple iPhone the Web browser on the Palm Pre is built on top of WebKit making the browser super fast and providing desktop performance.  And although it offers similar drag functionality and zoom capabilities the Palm Pre does offer some features that you don’t have on the iPhone such as copy & paste and MMS messaging which we’ve come to take for granted in today’s day and age.

Equipped with a large high resolution 3.1 inch touchscreen complete with multi touch support, built-in accelerometer sensor for auto screen rotation as well as ambient light and proximity sensors, the Palm Pre is an outstanding device to say the least.  The Palm Pre also comes with a unique gesture bar which is positioned below the display and allows users to interact using gestures and so streamlines navigation.  Alternatively the trackball navigation provides another easy method of browsing web pages and locating files stored on the device.  It may be a bit on the heavy side but considering the Palm Pre’s capabilities this can easily be forgiven.

Powerful, fast and seamless with great performance the Palm Pre comes with a full vertical slide-out Qwerty keyboard, 3 mega pixel camera with LED flash, 3.5 audio headset jack, Bluetooth wireless with A2DP support, microUSB and a massive 8GB internal memory.

Another unique selling point is that the Palm Pre can be charged at top a specially designed wireless Touchstone charging dock, simply swap the back cover for a magnetic one and you’re ready to go.  But the sad news is that the charging dock and magnetic back cover don’t come with the phone and have to bought separately.

A sketchy release date has been given as the first half of 2009 with initial exclusivity being taken by Sprint USA but no word on pricing at the moment.
