Nokia surpasses Samsung in Russia

The Nokia Lumia 620, Nokia Lumia 625, Nokia Lumia 720, Nokia Lumia 920, and Nokia Lumia 925 are selling like hotcakes in Russia that it was enough to surpass the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world Samsung.Nokia_russa_graph

WP Central reports, “There’s nothing but positive results for Nokia and Windows Phone lately. Today, we’re continuing the momentum with news from Russia where Nokia has surpassed Samsung for market share. The story was first published in Vedomosti, Russia’s premier business paper

“The data itself comes from Russia’s largest mobile retailer, Euroset, who have more than 5,000 stores across the vast country. Their latest report puts Nokia at 29% of the mobile market in Russia this summer, up from 27% in the spring. Samsung meanwhile has dropped to 27% from a previous 30% just a few months ago. That bump gives Nokia back the edge since Samsung beat them earlier this year (the two often go back and forth in terms of market share in the country).

“The reason why Nokia is doing so well? Budget phones and Nokia’s large portfolio. Indeed, Nokia’s average price for a smartphone has dropped to 2769 rubles this July compared to 3292 rubles the same time last year. While a lot of the motion is being driven by the Lumia line, which has seen its prices drop lately, the Asha brand is also strong in Russia too, helping keep Nokia more than relevant in the market.”

Amber update rolling out first to Nokia Lumia 920 in August to September?

According to Taiwanese site ePrice, the Lumia Amber update (includes Windows Phone 8 GDR 2 update) will be rolling out first to the Nokia Lumia 920 smartphone towards the end of August or early in September. However, G4Games, notes, “As some of you might know, yesterday Nokia announced that on August 16th, the first Amber enabled Lumia (the Nokia Lumia 925) will be introduced to the Taiwanese market. When asked about the Nokia Amber update for the other Lumia smartphone’s, Nokia Taiwan’s PR company has responded that the rollout will begin in late August / early September. The bad news if you don’t own the Nokia Lumia 920, is that the aforementioned device will be given top priority which probably translates to “if you own any other Lumia model, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer“.

“We don’t know if the aforementioned late August / early September window is valid for a worldwide release or only for the Taiwanese market, but even if the exact dates won’t coincide, the timeframe should be roughly the same.”

Latest Nokia OS update brings “text and call blocking” to Lumia devices

The new app integrates into the phone section of the Windows Phone OS, where you as the user can easily tap and hold on to a certain number to simply add it to your block list.

This addition that the Windows Phone OS maker added is basically not built fully into the OS yet. The app by Nokia will take advantage of the new APIs included in the Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update that is currently rolling out to a couple of Nokia’s Lumia Windows Phone devices.

The said Nokia app will also give you the option to block withheld numbers, notifications, and a Live Tile to easily track how many times a certain number is blocked. The downside is, for you to enjoy this feature; you have to block a number from texting and calling you. It means that you simply cannot ignore a certain number from sending SMS or calling you, while you continue to get calls from the said number.

This new app is said to roll out to Nokia Lumia devices immediately. Finally, this is the much-awaited update that many Nokia Lumia users are waiting for. We at PhonesLimited hope that this update will improve your Windows Phone OS experience while using your Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 820, and other Windows Phone 8 powered devices by Nokia.

Nokia Wins More Design Awards For The Nokia Lumia 920

imagesBack in November 2012, the Nokia Lumia 920 hit the market and became one of the biggest success stories in recent years for the Finland based manufacturer. The phone clocked up millions of sales in several countries around the world, and received encouraging feedback from consumers along with widespread critical acclaim and positive reviews. Alongside its Lumia 820 and Lumia 620 counterparts, Nokia’s devices have seen a steady increase in the company’s market share after a widely reported period of struggling to compete with rival manufacturers in recent years.

Nokia’s Lumia series utilises Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system. This is now one of the biggest contenders to more established platforms like Android and Apple’s iOS, and the operating system largely has Nokia Lumia devices to thank.

The Nokia Lumia 920 has been praised for its impressive spec list, and like its Lumia 620 and Lumia 820 counterparts offers some of most eye catching design of any smartphone model on the market. NokiaPowerUser recently reported that as a result, Nokia has won a number of awards for its Lumia devices and the international design excellence awards (IDEA).

Nokia was awarded gold in the communication tools category thanks to the design of the Lumia 920, Lumia 820 and Lumia 620. Additionally, Nokia also won bronze for the Nokia 206, while also picking up another gold award for its colour and materials design strategy. In the past, the Nokia Lumia 920 has one of several other awards, with a number being for its design. The website has reported that the IDEA judges were particularly impressed with Nokia’s character-rich brand identity and attention to detail, and praised the company’s use of colour in a market where white, grey and black smartphones are the norm.

Nokia’s recently released new flagship model, the Lumia 925 is also likely to win plenty of recognition for its design. It utilises the same design language as previous Lumia devices, and sees the use of more premium materials like an aluminium frame.
