Amber update rolling out first to Nokia Lumia 920 in August to September?

According to Taiwanese site ePrice, the Lumia Amber update (includes Windows Phone 8 GDR 2 update) will be rolling out first to the Nokia Lumia 920 smartphone towards the end of August or early in September. The Amber update is pre-installed on more current Lumia devices such as the Lumia 925 smartphone and the Lumia 1020, Nokia’s camera-centric Windows Phone 8 handset.tunacat_1_Nokia-_219da2f8995f4fa259375e21bb22f0cd

However, G4Games, notes, “As some of you might know, yesterday Nokia announced that on August 16th, the first Amber enabled Lumia (the Nokia Lumia 925) will be introduced to the Taiwanese market. When asked about the Nokia Amber update for the other Lumia smartphone’s, Nokia Taiwan’s PR company has responded that the rollout will begin in late August / early September. The bad news if you don’t own the Nokia Lumia 920, is that the aforementioned device will be given top priority which probably translates to “if you own any other Lumia model, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer“.

“We don’t know if the aforementioned late August / early September window is valid for a worldwide release or only for the Taiwanese market, but even if the exact dates won’t coincide, the timeframe should be roughly the same.”

Can’t wait for your Lumia device to run the Lumia Amber update? We’ll let you know once the update is available in the UK.

Nokia to hold an event next month (September 26-27) in New York City

According to people at Windows Phone Central, the maker of Lumia 1020 will be holding a two-day event in New York City on September 26-27th. Unfortunately, no details we given about the said event (not even a clue about the topic or agenda). However, many experts are thinking that this could be a potential venue for a Nokia tablet. Nokia_Event_NYC_Sept

The Finnish phone maker used New York City to unveil its flagship Lumia devices in the past. Last year (September to be exact), Nokia launched its Lumia 920. Just this month, the Finnish phone maker also launched its Lumia 1020 in New York. We all know that Nokia has a complete lineup of Lumia devices to date and it only means that there is an opening for the much talked about Nokia tablet.

Last February, Stephen Elop (Nokia’s CEO) said that they were looking “very closely” at tablets but had nothing to announce back then. Last May, Nokia’s Executive Vice President of smart devices Jo Harlow said: “We’re very interested in tablets and that’s an area we’re looking at.”

According to reports (The Verge to be exact), the Finnish phone maker had plans to develop a 10-inch tablet outfitted with Windows RT. However, Nokia decided to scrap it in favour of one running the full version of Windows 8.

Different sources are now claiming that Nokia is currently testing a tablet with different carriers. If this indeed is true, then Nokia could potentially coincide a tablet launch with the Windows 8.1 release (which many are expecting to happen early Fall).

The Lumia 925-Redesigned Nokia Lumia 920 Handset Is Revealed

After weeks of speculation the wait is finally over. We have been hearing rumours about the new Nokia Lumia 925, a revamped version of the Nokia Lumia 920, for some while and a TV advertisement in the UK hinted at the arrival of this exciting new phone. The model has now been officially announced.lumia 920

Just last week in the United States Nokia unveiled the new Lumia 928 and there was strong speculation that the European version of this handset, the Lumia 925, would be revealed shortly afterwards. Earlier in the week UK consumers were treated to a little teaser in the form of a TV advertisement. The advert was screened on Channel 4 and showed a new handset featuring a raised camera model and a dual LED flash. The phone in the advert look suspiciously similar to a device that was leaked recently which was reportedly the new Lumia 925. What added fuel to the fire was that Nokia had a major launch event for an unnamed device on May 14th. All of these factors added together suggested that the device being launched would be the 925, a modernised version of the Nokia Lumia 920 and this theory has proved correct.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of the new Lumia 925 is its eye catching design. The handset boasts an attractive metallic surround and a polycarbonate back panel which makes the device slimmer and more lightweight than the Nokia Lumia 920. The model weighs just 139 grammes and is just 8.9mm thick. The 920 weighed 185 grammes and measured 10.7mm thick so so big improvements have been made. The model sports an angular shape with neat lines and a very premium finish. Underneath the bonnet the phone is pretty much the same as the Lumia 920. The excellent Pureview 8.7 mega pixel camera once again features as does an impressive 4.5 inch display which is perfect for a multitude of uses.

Earlier this week speculation about the new Nokia Lumia 925 reached fever pitch and now Nokia have officially unveiled the model. The phone sports similar excellent specification to the Nokia Lumia 920 but with a redesigned body which looks great and catches the eye.

Nokia Lumia 920 ad makes fun of Apple-Samsung rivalry

Manufacturers have mocked their rivals in their ads. An example is the Samsung Galaxy S3 ad making fun of Apple fans queued for the iPhone 5. Now, a Nokia Lumia 920 ad does the same. This time, however, it hits two birds with one stone. It takes a crack out of the rivalry between Apple and Samsung.phprmcusd

The setting of the ad is a wedding. While the newlyweds are taking their vows, one side is recording the momentous event with Galaxy s3s and Galaxy Note 2s. The other side is capturing the event with iPhones. The clash between both sides is ignited when one says, “Would you mind moving your enormous phone.”

In the middle of the mayhem, one of the waiters asks another while recording the brawl, “Do you think if they knew about the Nokia they’d stop fighting all the time?” The other answers while doing the same thing, “I don’t know. I think they kind of like fighting,” which is right on the button. Tech fans on both sides love arguing about which platform is the best.

In the end of the ad, a Nokia tagline reads, “Don’t fight. Switch.” It also boasts about the Lumia 920 being chosen by Engadget as it smartphone of the year.

Revamped Lumia 920 Set To Be Named The Lumia Catwalk And Is Set For A May Release

Over the past few months we have been hearing an increased amount of speculation about a new premium model being added to the impressive range of Lumia smartphones developed by Nokia. The model is set to offer similar specification to the Lumia 920 but with a more premium design and new reports suggest that this model may be with us as soon as next month.lumia 920

The model in question here is rumoured to be named the new Nokia Catwalk which is also said to be named the Nokia Lumia 928. According to MyNokiaBlog an anonymous tipster has revealed that this model is set to be released on May 15th. Normally we take such tip offs with a pinch of salt however the tipster in question who goes by the name of South has provided numerous other stories in the past which have proven to be correct. The model may not offer anything drastically different from the Nokia Lumia 920 in terms of specification but it will offer some major design changes. These are said to include a new aluminium body and also dimensions that will make the device slimmer than the 920.

The Nokia Lumia 920 has many admirers but one of the main criticisms about this handset is that is is bulkier than many rival devices. This is the main reason why Nokia have been keen to produce a new model offering not only a smaller design but also a more premium one. A few other small changes are expected to debut on the model. Nokia look set to change the camera facility on the phone from the Pureview snapper that is included on the 920 to a new facility with a dual Xenon flash. This will help the manufacturers to make the 928 considerably slimmer than the Lumia 920.

After months of rumours surrounding the new Nokia Catwalk it looks as though we may be ready to welcome this new device as soon as next month. The handset is set to offer similar specification to the Nokia Lumia 920 but with a new metallic body and slimmer dimensions.
