LG Reinvents Charging With the Wireless Charging Pad
Thursday, March 24th, 2011These days we enjoy the benefits of wireless everything. We enjoy wireless internet connections. We share data via Bluetooth. We hold conversations with our loved ones, friends, and colleagues through wireless networks. However, did you ever think we could charge our smartphones without the hassles of wires? Did you ever think this was possible? Now, it is. LG just reinvented the way we charge our mobile phones with the wireless charging pad.
How does the technology work? This is inductive coupling at its best. This allows mobile phones to charge its batteries without the need for wires. The batteries are charged by the electromagnetic field on the mat. No more fighting over outlets; no more fighting over chargers. All you need to do is drop the phone on the mat.
Does this news excite you? In truth, this technology is not new. There have been other wireless pads available. However, you had to outfit your handset with a specially designed casing, which most people find bulky and ugly. In addition to its looks, charging proved to be a hassle. It is slower compared to wired charging. This is why no one is charging their phones wirelessly.
LG has addressed this problem. Rather than outfitting smartphones with bulky casings, they are planning to outfit selected smartphone models with its own inductive coil. This means that only selected LG smartphones will have this feature. Maybe the Optimus 2X, the Optimus 3D, or the Optimus Pad will come with the feature in the near future. This is yet to be announced. Furthermore, the technology is not yet available.
The good thing about the technology is that other phone manufacturers will soon follow suit once wireless charging is perfected. This will make wired chargers a thing of the past. For now, it is only LG who has reinvented charging with its wireless charging pad.
