BBM for Windows beta surfaces in Windows Phone Store

BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) for Windows beta has surfaced in the Windows Phone Store. Unfortunately, the only way to use BBM on your Windows Phone device is to get invited to download the app.

Although BBM for Windows Phone is a “by invitation only” affair, BlackBerry says, “BBM for Windows beta. We’re getting ready to welcome Windows Phone users to the BBM community. BBM brings you together in the moment with friends and family through instant chats, voice calls, picture sharing, voice notes and more.”

BlackBerry is yet to announce when its messaging service will be available for Windows Phone users. We’re guessing, however, that it’ll be available soon.

Phones LTD will let you know once BBM for Windows Phone is available in the Windows Phone Store.

Blackberry looking for way to send money via BBM

Speaking to Re/code, John Sims, BlackBerry enterprise unit president, said, “We’re meeting with partners and we are exploring the market. Money movement is an important thing.”

According to the site, “While plenty of companies are looking at NFC and other technologies to manage payments in mature markets, Sims said he sees potential in developing markets where BBM is popular, such as Indonesia and parts of Latin America. The company has made steps in that direction before. Last year, it began testing a BBM Money service in Indonesia in conjunction with the local Bank Permata.

“Sims noted that BBM has 85 million monthly active users and has seen daily registration rates increase 40 percent since it added support for Gingerbread, an older version of Android still widely used on phones in developing markets.”
