Google Nexus 5 Release Date and Spec Rumours

Rumour has it that Google’s upcoming Nexus phone the Nexus 5 could be released later this month, with some speculating as early as October 14th. Or it could be that it is launched ‘alongside the Nexus 10’ at the end of October as reported on by GSMArena.

With leaked images popping up all over the place of late it’s no wonder that rumours are rife as to what we can expect and when it will be released. Screen shots have already surfaced of Android 4.4 KitKat following its reveal last month so we suspect that the Nexus 5 will be running the latest version of Android straight out of the box.

Considering that Google have slashed the price of their Nexus 4 device , we can only assume that this is to make way for the imminent arrival of the new Google Nexus smart phone.

Google Nexus 5 Expectations

Assumptions are that the next generation Google Android flagship phone may come with a 64-bit processor on board and 3GB if not 4GB of RAM, following in the footsteps of Apple with their release of the new iPhone 5S last month.

This would be the second of Google’s Nexus handsets to be made by LG, but LG’s concerns that it may detract attention away from the LG G2 sparked rumours that it may alternatively be manufactured by Motorola or even Asus as reported by TrustedReviews.  Regardless though, Google will undoubtedly be aspiring to create some healthy competition for the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The live photo which popped up on a MacRumours forum, and was spotted by the Verge, may give us an idea of what to expect.

Judging by what the Google Nexus 4 had to offer though, there are high hopes for the Nexus 5.  Various speculations and numerous reports suggest that the Nexus 5 will offer improved graphics performance, a bigger 3300mAh Li-Po battery, a more advanced 16 mega pixel camera accompanied by a better 2.1MP front facing camera, a larger 5″ full HD display and 4G LTE compatibility.

In terms of on board memory, it is thought that the Google Nexus 5 will be released in 16/32 and 64 GB variants and the 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU adorned by its predecessor will be replaced with a faster and more powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.  Considering that the Nexus 4 came with NFC support and wireless charging option, we would expect these features to be amongst those on the Nexus 5 spec sheet.

For now though and with no official word from Google yet, it’s all still speculation and rumours but we will keep you posted so check back with us for the latest news and updates.

Android 4.4 KitKat coming in October, according to Nestlé employee

Wondering when Google will be releasing Android 4.4 (KitKat) for Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3? According to a Nestlé employee, the latest version of Android will be coming in October.Android-KitKat-640x600

The announcement was seen by The Unwired on Nestlé’s German Facebook page. The site reports, “When Google announced earlier this month that Android 4.4 will be code-named Kit Kat, it hasn’t given any further details. Neither were exact enhancements mentioned, nor has Google announced when Android 4.4 might be available. Now a Nestlé social media employee might have unveiled what we all were awaiting – the release date of Android 4.4 Kit Kat. On the German Kit Kat Facebook page, a user has asked “when Android 4.4 KitKat will be available” and “Kit Kat” answered “Android 4.4 KIT KAT is available from October”. That’s it – straight forward. Now we could argue that the social media employee was talking about the Kit Kat chocolate but this is already available in selected stores. Furthermore he/she mentioned Android 4.4 – not just Kit Kat.”

However, it notes, “Again, it’s questionable if Nestlé social media employees really know the planned release date but since this answer was – typically German – straight forward; and the release date was repeated a second time today, there’s indeed a real chance that our Android phones will get an upgrade from Jell Beans to Kit Kat in October.”
