New mid-range metal-clad Huawei G7 Plus makes its official debut – features OIS and a fingerprint scanner
Recently, we’ve been hearing a lot about tomorrow’s flagships, which made us almost not notice the unveiling of the new mid-range Huawei G7 Plus. So what makes the smartphone special? Despite being a mid-range offering, it has more to offer. These include a 90% metal construction, OIS, and a fingerprint scanner.
The Huawei G7 Plus is here
The G7 Plus rocks a 5.5-inch screen just like its predecessor the G7. However, it offers a much higher resolution. The G7 offers a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels (HD), while the G7 Plus offers a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). The G7 Plus still features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, but this time with optical image stabilisation, sapphire lens, an RGBW sensor, and wider aperture, which means better performance in low-light conditions. It also features 32 GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot for additional storage options. Under the hood is a pretty capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor, coupled with 3 GB of RAM. To keep the lights on, the smartphone features a 3,000 mAh battery. Upgrades include a fingerprint scanner, which is pretty much the trend in the mobile industry these days, and improved an improved speaker chamber. It runs Android 5.1 (Lollipop) out of the box, with Huawei promising to roll out the Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) update in February of next year.
In terms of design, the Huawei G7 Plus pretty much looks like its predecessor, but is clad in “90% metal.” This means a more premium look and feel, despite being a mid-range device. Colour options include Silver, Grey, and Gold. It measures 152.5 x 76.5 x 7.5 mm and weighs in at 167 g. The flaw here, however, is that, if you’re looking for a smartphone with almost no bezels, the G7 Plus doesn’t have this to offer. Regardless, its 5.5-inch screen still offers more than enough real estate compared to most devices available in the market.
The Huawei G7 Plus will be first available in Asia for the equivalent of £217 for the SIM free version. Not bad at all for something that offers more bang for the buck.
It is yet to be determined if and when the Huawei G7 Plus will be available in the UK.
