LG Nexus 5X makes its official debut
The Nexus 5X smartphone has been the subject of a number of leaks as of late. Now the device is now official, as Google has recently lifted the curtain on its much awaited smartphone.
Nexus 5X now official
The Nexus 5X sports a 5.2-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). Its camera combo consists of a 12.3-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1.55 micron pixels, f/2.0 aperture and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture, which is ideal for taking selfies and video chat. Storage options include a 16 GB and 32 GB version. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor clocked as much as 2 GHz with an Adreno 418 GPU, coupled with 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. To keep the lights on, the smartphone features a 2,700 mAh battery. It runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box.
The Nexus 5X also features front-facing speakers, a fingerprint scanner found on the back of the device, and a USB Type C port.
What we didn’t get
What the Nexus 5X doesn’t come with is a microSD card slot (so you better keep track of what you install in the device to prevent running out of storage space), wireless charging support, and OIS (optical image stabilisation).
This is the first time a native fingerprint API that has been included in Android, which has been dubbed “Nexus Imprint.” Nexus Imprint no longer requires you to unlock the screen and then unlock the phone itself, unlike most of the fingerprint solutions out there such as Apple’s and Samsung’s. Nexus Imprint will bypass the process of unlocking the screen and directly unlocks the device. This is done by simply tapping on the fingerprint scanner once.
This fingerprint scanning solution is much faster than what is available on existing devices. It only takes 1/600 milliseconds for the reader to scan users’ fingerprints. Nexus Imprint also works with Android Pay.
Price and release date
The unlocked Nexus 5X is available for pre-order on Google Play. The 16 GB storage option costs £339, while the 32 GB storage option costs £379.
Interested parties in the US, UK, Ireland and Japan can now pre-order the Nexus 5X from Google Play, but it is yet to be determined when Google will launch the device. According to Google, the smartphone will launch this month, but failed to mention when exactly.
