Windows Phone 8.1 hasn’t found its way to the majority of Windows Phone fans around the world, with the Nokia Lumia 630 (the first handset to run the latest version of the software) landing in a few markets. Despite this, we’re already hearing about Windows Phone 9, with Microsoft reportedly planning to release a preview version of the software in early 2015.
The news comes to us courtesy of MYCE. Then site has gotten its hands on a leaked document that spills the beans on a number of things about the software. It says that both Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9 will have preview versions released in “2015 Q2 – Q3.” This means that the preview could be released anywhere from April to September of next year.
Sadly, it doesn’t say what new features to expect with Windows 9 or Windows Phone 9. It does say, however, that the software is in development.
The leak mentions something called “Windows 365” that comes with the label “Alpha based on Windows Core.” This seems to be an operating system of sorts. The only connection to be made is Office 365. Office 365 is subscription-based and cloud-powered. Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, did say that the Redmond firm was focusing on making its products available through the cloud. Could Windows 365 be subscription-based and cloud-powered as well? Unfortunately, there’s no way for us to confirm this, but we’ll let you know once we find out more.
According to a report, Microsoft, the new owners of Nokia’s Devices & Services division, is working on the follow-up to the Android-powered Nokia X, the Nokia X2.
The news comes to us courtesy of Chinese-speaking Baidu. According to the site, the device has already been benchmarked, revealing 4GB of internal storage, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 MSM-8210 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and 1GB of RAM. This is much better compared to the 1GHz dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM on the Nokia X.
In one of the images seen above, it says “Nokia X2 2015.” So we’re guessing the device will make its debut early next year.
Unfortunately, this is all the leak had to revel, but we’re sure to get more information on the device in the coming months.
