HTC One A9 teased in new videos

We’ve learned from past reports that HTC is cooking up something new and plans to unveil a new smartphone on the 20th of October. Many agree that HTC’s upcoming device is the HTC One A9 (said to be code named “Aero”). Now, HTC posted two new videos that tease the device on Twitter.

The new videos were teased by @HTCUSA on Twitter. Not much was revealed in the two videos, but a lot of information has been leaked about the rumoured HTC One A9 in the past few months, and we know quite a lot about it. Check out the videos below.

What we know so far

Initially, many believed that the HTC One A9 would be a high-end device, with one report claiming that it would rock a MediaTek MT6797 deca-core processor. More recent leaks, however, claim that the One A9 would be a mid-ranger rather than a high-end smartphone.

We’ve learned that the HTC One A9 would sport a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). This works out to a pixel density of 441 ppi. Under the hood is said to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 64-bit octa-core processor with an Adreno 405 GPU, coupled with 2 GB of RAM. In the photography department, the device is believed to feature a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS and a 4-megapixel Ultrapixel camera for snapping selfies and video chat. Previous leaked photos show that the device will sport a home button with a fingerprint scanner on board. The smartphone is said to come with 16 GB of on board storage. If this is not enough, users can always slap in a microSD card. To keep the lights on, the device is said to come with a 2,150 mAh battery. It is said to be 7 mm-thick. The unannounced smartphone is said to be clad in metal and will be available in six colour options.

So will the HTC One A9 run Lollipop or the latest version of Android. Although the Taiwanese phone maker is yet to spill the beans on the matter, it has teased that its upcoming device will be one of the first devices to ship running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). So we’re almost certain that the One A9 will run Marshmallow out of the box.

We’ve known that HTC was developing a “Hero” phone, ever since Cher Wang, HTC CEO, mentioned the device after the company posted dismal earnings back in June. Wang promised investors that the device would make up for the disappointing performance of the HTC One M9. The device was said to be known as the “Aero” internally, and was later revealed to be called the “HTC One A9.” We’ve seen leaked photos that allegedly show the device. Now a dummy unit of the smartphone has been leaked in new photos.

@OnLeaks, a Twitter account known for leaking accurate information on yet to be announced devices, is responsible for this latest leak involving the HTC One A9. The photos show many angles of the device, giving us a closer look at the smartphone. This latest leak shows a device that looks a lot like the One A9 we’ve seen in past leaked photos.

Initially, it was believed that the HTC One A9 would rock a MediaTek MT6797 deca-core processor. Serial leakster Evan Blass (popularly known on Twitter as @evleaks), however, claims that the device will be a mid-range smartphone and not high-end.

According to Blass and previous reports, the HTC One A9 will sport a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). This works out to a pixel density of 441 ppi. Previous leaked photos show that the device will sport a home button with a fingerprint scanner on board. Its camera combo consists of a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS and a 4-megapixel Ultrapixel camera for snapping selfies and video chat. It is said to offer 16 GB of internal storage. If more storage space is needed, a microSD card slot is on board. Under the hood is said to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 64-bit octa-core processor with an Adreno 405 GPU, coupled with 2 GB of RAM. To keep the lights on, the device is said to come with a 2,150 mAh battery. It is said to be 7 mm-thick. It is said to run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box. The unannounced smartphone is said to be clad in metal and will be available in six colour options.

HTC is scheduled to hold a press event on the 20th of October, where the device is expected to make its official debut. It is expected to be available in stores sometime in November.

HTC to unveil One A9 on October 20 – to run Marshmallow out of the box?

HTC recently lifted the lid on two new smartphones – the Taiwanese- and Japanese-exclusive HTC Butterfly 3 and an upgraded version of the HTC One M9 Plus, the HTC One M9 Plus Aurora Edition. The two were unveiled on the 29th of September, which was expected to be the day the rumoured One A9 would make its official debut, but was MIA at the event. HTC has now sent invitations for an event on the 20th of October (you can watch the event here: www.htc.com/launch), which is believed to be the day we see the One A9 in the flesh.

The invite HTC sent reads, “Meet the new Marshmallow from HTC on 10/20.” So it’s a dead cert that the upcoming device will run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

Although the invite doesn’t reveal what device will be unveiled at the event, we’re expecting that the device will be the HTC One A9, since it has been the subject of recent leaks. Additionally, there’s no other HTC-made device rumoured to make its official debut this year.

Past leaked have revealed that the HTC One A9 will sport a 5-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels (Full HD). This means that the screen will have a pixel density of 441 ppi. A fingerprint scanner that doubles as a home button is said to be on board. Its camera combo consists of a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS and the infamous 4-megapixel Ultrapixel front-facing camera for snapping selfies and video chat. It is said to come with 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for additional storage options. It is also expected to sport a  Under the hood is expected to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor with an Adreno 405 GPU, coupled with 2 GB  of RAM. To keep the lights on, it is said to feature a 2,150 mAh battery, and is said to be 7 mm-thick. It is expected to be available in six colour options, and is rumoured to be launched in November.

Initial reports claimed that the HTC One A9 would be a high-end device, but these leaked specs reveal that it is more a mid-range smartphone.

If you want to know more about HTC’s upcoming high-end devices, you’ll have to wait for the first quarter of 2016, as HTC is said to be planning to launch the rumoured HTC O2. That device is reportedly a 6-inch phablet with a Snapdragon 820 SoC under the hood.

HTC One A9 to be one of the first non-Nexus devices to run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box?

The rumoured HTC One A9, codenamed “Aero,” has been making rounds around the rumour mill as of late, which is said to be the device that can potentially change HTC’s fortunes. It is said to be the “Hero” phone HTC head honcho Cher Wang promised investors. We’re pretty confident that the device will run Android, but it remains a mystery what version of Google’s operating system will power the device, until now. If a renowned HTC insider and ROM developer is to be believed, the HTC One A9 will run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box.

Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) pre-installed?

CNnGDpXWEAAGEMd

The renowned HTC insider and ROM developer in question goes by the name of @LlabTooFeR on Twitter. He claims that HTC will release the HTC One A9 in between the months of October and November. He also claims that the device will run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box. If this holds water, this would mean that the HTC One A9 will be one of the first non-Nexus devices to come with Marshmallow pre-installed.

HTC has sent invites for an event scheduled on the 29th of September. On that same date, Google will be hosting a press event. Google is expected to officially unveil two new Nexus devices at its event – the LG-made Nexus 5X smartphone and the Huawei-made Nexus 6 (2015). The two are expected to run Marshmallow out of the box. The question is, is it a coincidence that HTC’s rumoured Hero phone will be unveiled on the same day two new Nexus devices will make their official debut, or is this all part of a bigger plan? We’ll just have to wait and see.

According to past reports, the HTC One A9 will sport a screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD). We still have no idea what the cameras will be on board the upcoming device, but the common consensus is the device’s camera will support RAW photos. Under the hood will be MediaTek’s MT6797 deca-core (10 cores) processor, coupled with 4 GB of RAM.

It’s a fact that HTC has seen better days, after posting record-low earnings. With the HTC One A9 potentially being one of the first non-Nexus devices to run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box, this could be what the HTC needs to get back on its feet.

Is this the actual HTC A9?

Just the other day, a photo (see below) was posted online, claiming to be the rumoured HTC A9 (HTC Aero). It looked a lot like the Apple iPhone 6, and turned out to be nothing but a photoshopped image.

uuu

Although the photo above was nothing but a Photoshop job, it seems that person behind the render was given accurate information about the HTC A9, newly leaked photos of the rumoured device have confirmed.

HTC A9?

Romanian-speaking Mobilissimo.ro is responsible for the photoshopped image of the HTC A9. When the render was first posted online and proven to be a Photoshop job, we dismissed the render as nothing but a baseless rumour. However, if an alleged leaked photo (see above) of the A9 shown alongside the Apple iPhone 6 is genuine, the photoshopped image seems to have been accurate after all.

The newly leaked photo of the HTC A9 comes to us courtesy of Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo (the equivalent of Twitter in China). It shows a person holding the HTC A9 with one hand, with the other hands holding the iPhone 6. Of course, since nothing is official at this point, take the photo with a pinch of salt.

We’ve learned from past rumours that the HTC A9 is said to sport a 5.5-inch screen with 2.5 D curved glass, a groundbreaking new camera, a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core (10 cores) processor under the hood, and 4 GB of RAM. The HTC A9 is rumoured to be constructed out of metal.

Past rumours have also revealed that the HTC A9 and the HTC O2 are two different devices. The HTC O2 is said to be the “Hero” phone Cher Wang, HTC’s CEO, mentioned, when trying appease disappointed investors, after HTC posted dismal earnings.According to reports, the HTC O2 will come with a 6-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD), Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 CPU under the hood, and IP certification. Since the Snapdragon 820 will not be launched until Q1 2016, the HTC O2 isn’t expected until the first quarter of 2016 as well.
