Android 4.4 KITKAT Before Android 5.0 (previously Key Lime Pie)
As with all Google’s news announcements the industry has been surprised today with the news that the next instalment of the Android operating system is to be named …. wait for it …. KitKat!
And, further surprising tech writers is that this latest version of the OS is to be Android 4.4 and not the much anticipated Android 5.0 which everyone was expecting to be named Android Key Lime Pie.
So what’s with Android 4.4 Kit Kat?
Well, it could well be the news that many Android users have been waiting for in that their older devices could finally get the latest version of the software along with those great features that Google has been rolling out in the newer models like the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (launching tomorrow!).
Google have also built a brand new webpage for the latest Android 4.4 KitKat system which showcases all of their different versions from Android Cupcake through to the new Kit Kat.
Taken from the site:
Android is the operating system that powers over 1 billion smartphones and tablets. Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat®!
