We have seen an increasing amount of speculation of the past few weeks about the possible launch of a brand new iPhone. The device in question is not the iPhone 5S handset that is likely to be released in the third quarter of the year but a second model that targets the cheaper end of the smartphone market. New images and details about this rumoured model have surfaced on a well known internet site over the last few days.
Images of this new model popped up on the iLounge website, a technology site that offers a host of news about Apple products and services. The site is normally the first place where we here news about forthcoming products and although there is no confirmation that these latest images are genuine they certainly look like the real deal. Previous “leaks” published on iLounge have proven to be correct so we are optimistic about these latest shots. In terms of looks the new photographs show a phone very similar in design to the iPhone 5. A snap of the back panel does slow a slightly curved chassis and there seems to be a plastic sheen visible suggesting that Apple will use cheaper materials on this phone to keep the price down. Other iPhone’s in recent years have boasted glass or metallic body’s. We expect to see the new iPhone 5S arrive in the summer months and there is every likelihood that this new budget iPhone will be released at around the same time.
The latest images that have popped up on iLounge are accompanied by some details about this rumoured new models which give us a little more of an idea about what the phone will offer. In terms of design the handset is said to measure one millimetre thicker than the iPhone 5 and half a millimetre wider and taller. The bottom edge of the phone will be where the headphone socket will be located alongside speakers and the Lightning connector. The handset will offer a screen the same size as the iPhone 5 at 4 inches but with a slightly lower resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels. It is pleasing to see that Gorilla Glass is set to be included to help protect the screen from damage. The volume buttons located on the side of the device appear to be more elongated than the ones present on the iPhone 5, an element that is more common with the company’s range of iPod devices.
We are all looking forward to the new iPhone 5S being released this summer and there is every chance that this model may arrive together with a new iPhone targeting the lower end of the smartphone market.
