A couple of weeks ago, the Sony Xperia Z was finally unveiled at CES 2013 in Las Vegas, following weeks of speculation about the phone’s potential features. The device looks like it will be the biggest success to date for Sony Mobile, on account of its high-end specifications and stunning design. While there are a number of impressive handsets in the Sony Xperia range, none have yet managed to gain significant levels of commercial success. However, the Sony Xperia Z looks like it may be the phone to change this.
Although the Xperia Z has not yet hit the market, it has been well received while by critics and reviewers. It is easy to see why when we look at its spec list. Key features of the phone include a full high definition display with a resolution of 1080p, measuring 5 inches and also incorporating Sony’s Bravia technology. The phone has a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 13.1 megapixel camera and Android 4.1 Jellybean OS. Another feature which really sets the phone apart from the competition is its IP57 certification. This means the phone is dustproof, and can even be submerged in up to one metre of water for 30 minutes without being damaged. It was widely assumed that the Sony Xperia Z would be launched in the UK in March, but it appears that it may hit the market sooner than that. According to the statement on O2’s website, the network will be carrying the device from February. O2 will carry the Xperia Z in its standard black and white colour options, but the network has also confirmed that it has gained exclusive rights to also carry the head turning purple Sony Xperia Z version.
Information regarding which other networks will carry the device, and pricing for pay monthly contracts is yet to be released. However, we can expect details to be made available in the near future as O2 gears up to launch the phone in the UK.
