Samsung has sold a whopping 30 million units of the highly popular Galaxy S3, outselling Apple’s iPhone for the very first time.samsung_galaxy_SIII__54545.1348924053.1280.1280

After Samsung’s current flagship was launched seven months ago, it was destined to be a hit. It won the coveted CNET Editor’s Choice Award, and helped the Korean tech giant knock Nokia off its perch, nabbing the title as the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The handset has also outsold the iPhone for the first time by the end of 2012.

With the overwhelming success garnered by the Galaxy S3, the bar has been set high for its rivals as well as its successor the Galaxy S4. Samsung’s next flagship is rumoured to sport a 5-inch 1080p screen. Furthermore, according to a leaked photo, it will not sport a home button. Samsung Lebanon, however, says that the handset will not be hitting shops until May. So it’ll take a while until you get your hands on the S4.

Samsung announced the Galaxy S3’s successful sales figures at CES, which kicked off in Las Vegas. At the event, it also lifted the lid on the Ativ Odyssey, a new handset running Windows Phone 8.
