Sony Xperia U o Get Android Jellybean Update In December

The Sony Xperia range arguably contains some of the most impressive devices on the market, although they have largely been unable to compete with the domination of the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S lines, which continue to dominate the market by a wide margin.

High end devices like the Sony Xperia S and Xperia T boast a number of industry leading features, coupled with Sony’s excellent design which has drastically improved since the company parted ways with Ericsson last year.

The Sony Xperia U is one of the budget/mid range devices in Sony’s Xperia line.  This phone was launched back in May, and originally shipped with Android version 2.3, also known as Gingerbread.  Shortly after this phone was launched, an update was rolled out to the phone, upgrading its operating system to a later version of Android (version 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich).  It appears though, that yet another Android update is shortly to be rolled out for the Xperia U.

An article over Android Authority has said that an Android 4.1 Jellybean update will begin to roll out for the Xperia U, Xperia T, the Xperia Go and Xperia Sola models at some point in December.  This claim was also recently backed up by the Facebook page of Sony Mobile Italy, which posts the same information.

Obviously, the exact update schedule will vary on factors like your network and location, though it is anticipated for the vast majority of Sony Xperia U owners should have received the update by the end of the month. It would be all too easy for Sony to concentrate its Android update activities on its higher end devices, so is good to see that the company has not overlooked its midrange offerings as well.
