According to a report, HTC is planning to challenge the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3 in 2013 with the HTC M7 (Magnificent Seven).
Currently, the Taiwanese firm hasn’t confirmed the existence of the Magnificent Seven. However, rumours have began to make the rounds, claiming that HTC is planning to take on flagships the likes of the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 with its new superphone. According to Focus Taiwan, HTC has briefed casing and semiconductor suppliers that it will be needing components for four to five million units of the M7.
During the early years of Android, HTC was the most successful Android manufacturer. However, as Android grew in popularity, Samsung overtook HTC as the leading manufacturer of Android-powered devices with its highly popular Galaxy line. Last year, HTC launched the One X, which is one of the most powerful handsets in the market. Sadly, buyers would rather get their hands on Samsung Galaxy handsets and iPhones rather than HTC’s smartphones.
Right now, the M7’s spec sheet is still a mystery. However, if it wants to compete with today’s big guns, we’re expecting the superphone to sport a 1080p touchscreen, a high-resolution camera, at least a quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. Of course, since HTC has not confirmed the existence of their new flagship, take this information with a pinch of salt.
It’s a dead cert that the Magnificent Seven will be capable of connecting to a 4G network in the US. However, we’re not too sure if this will be the same case in the UK. With network operators launching their 4G networks by next year, it’s possible. We’ll just have to wait and see if the rumours are true.
