The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been one of the biggest smartphone models of 2012. Not only has it received critical acclaim on account of many of its innovative features, but it has also seen record breaking levels of commercial success. The device took just 100 days to sell its first 20 million units after its launch in May, and Samsung recently announced that sales have hit 30 million after the handset was on the market for just over 150 days.
Previous instalments of the Samsung Galaxy line have also been successful. The original Samsung Galaxy S which was launched into 2010, and last year’s Galaxy S2 model have now sold a combined 50 million units and counting. Combined with the fact that the Galaxy S3 has been on the market since May, which is a long time in smartphone terms it is only natural that rumours are starting to circulate regarding the follow up to the Galaxy S3.
Believed to be called the Galaxy S4, Samsung has not officially acknowledged the existence of the follow-up to the Galaxy S3, but this has not stopped numerous websites from speculating about potential key features of the next instalment of the Samsung Galaxy S range.
One of the features which has been subject to speculation is the screen. It is believed that the next Galaxy phone may sport a 4.99 inch display with a true HD resolution of 1080p. This makes it one of the first mobile devices with a true high definition display, and certainly a first for the South Korea based manufacturer. Other rumours have included a 13 megapixel camera, which looks highly likely as Samsung has been working on this feature for quite some time. The processor has also been subject to speculation. Samsung has recently developed an eight core processor. Although this is yet to enter mass production, some sources have suggested it will make its debut on the Galaxy S4 whereas others believe it will be utilised on a device to be launched at a later date.
