The Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone ranges have dominated the smartphone market by a very wide margin over the last couple of years. Although a number of impressive competitors have been released from manufacturers including HTC and Sony, they have been largely unable to compete with the dominating handsets.
The Sony Xperia range has seen plenty of additions over the last couple of years, and although many of these have been excellent phones, they have not quite managed to make as much of an impact on the market Sony would have hoped.
This looks like it may be set to change in the near future. Head of sales and marketing for Sony Mobile Dennis van Shie has stated in an interview with Tinancial Times Deutschland “In the near future we’ll finish a flagship model, which will be able to compete with Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S III”.
It looks like Sony Mobile will be onto a winner here, as more and more people are seeking alternatives to market leading Android and iOS powered devices. This was perfectly demonstrated recently when the Nokia Lumia 920 quickly become a wildly popular handset, with reports of the handset selling out in many countries, far surpassing expectations of even Nokia and Microsoft, which powers the phone’s Windows Phone 8 operating system. If this new, as yet unnamed Sony handset will compete with the likes of the Samsung Salaxy S3 and the Apple iPhone 5, we can expect plenty of impressive features to grace the spec list.
As it stands, there are officially no details regarding any of the phone’s features, and is set to be unveiled at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. As soon as we hear of any more information about its upcoming Sony device, we will be sure to let you know.
