HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 users report Windows Phone 8 ‘random reboot’ issue

Windows Phone 8 is the latest mobile operating system to come out of Microsoft. Unfortunately, according to reports from customers who purchased these handsets, the software is causing the phones to randomly reboot.

The two handsets in question are the HTC 8X and the Nokia Lumia 920. Owners of the handsets have vented out their frustrations on a number of support forums, complaining about random reboots. Owners of Nokia’s current flagship are also complaining about poor battery life and the device freezing.

The threads can be found on WPCentral as well as Nokia and Microsoft support forums. The complaints started when the phones went on sale early this November.

On WPCentral, mberdych, a poster that started one of the threads, said, “So far, within 3 days of use, I have had 2 random reboots. Device just suddenly reboots itself, ending in PIN screen. Quite annoying.”

The Nokia Lumia 920 is the Windows Phone 8 device more affected by this issue. Aside from the random reboots, owners have also reported of their phones having poor battery life. If you are experiencing this problem and are thinking of solving the problem via a factory reset, don’t. Users who have resorted to a factory reset resulted in the device remaining in the Nokia splash screen, bricking the device.

Again on WPCentral, Brian McBride wrote, “I thought I’d hard reset my phone and start from scratch to see if I could get better battery life. Now it is stuck on the Nokia splash screen. Resetting it with the buttons only causes a vibrate, the AT&T logo, then back to the Nokia splash screen.”

We are yet to hear from Microsoft, HTC, and Nokia regarding the issue.
