The Nokia Lumia 920 Comes Out On Top In Video Test

One of the most important smartphones to be released from Nokia is soon to be launched. The Nokia Lumia 920 has already created plenty of hype during the build up to its launch, which is set to take place in a few days.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will be the flagship handset from the Finnish manufacturer to showcase the new Windows Phone 8 operating system from Microsoft.  It will be launched alongside the mid-range offering which will also sport the new software, called the Nokia Lumia 820.

There has already reportedly been high demand for the Nokia Lumia 920, with reports Italian and American retailers selling out of pre-order stock for the handset.  The Lumia 920 packs a very impressive spec list, but one of the features which really stands out is its camera.  The resolution of this is 8 megapixels, but thanks to its built in Nokia PureView Technology, is able to capture photos and videos in a higher resolution.  This technology works essentially by multiplying the amount of pixels available from the camera.  The camera of another Nokia handset, the 808 PureView has a 5 megapixel camera but the PureView technology allows it to capture photos of 41 megapixels.

A French website called Test-Mobile has tested the Nokia Lumia 920 against notable competitors including the Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X and the Apple iPhone 5, to see how it fares against them when it comes to capturing video footage.  The results are somewhat surprising, with the Nokia Lumia 920 the stand out winner.  Not only is the quality of the video footage itself far superior to that of the competing handsets, but in the videos (which can be viewed here), it is really noticeable what a difference the Lumia 920′s enhanced video stabilisation makes.

One of the most surprising parts of the test was when the Lumia 920 was pitted against the iPhone 5. This is touted by Apple as the most advanced smartphone on the market, and Apple claims it has the most advanced camera. However, when the Lumia 920 and iPhone 5 film the same piece of footage, the results make the iPhone 5 look like a much older, inferior smartphone when compared to that of the Lumia 920.

Nokia’s new Windows Phone flagship looks like it will be a hit, and could help Nokia on its way back to the top.
