Google event set for the 29th of October – could this be the launching of the LG Nexus 4?

Google sent invitations to press for an event that is scheduled for the 29th of October. The LG Nexus 4 is expected to be unveiled at this event.

The event will be held in a venue in New York, which kicks off at 10am US time, 2pm UK time. The invitation shows a colourful New York skyline. A search box is also shown with a text within, which reads, “The playground is open.”

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 event will be kicking off on the same day (just a few hours after Google’s event). It’s no coincidence Google has set its event at the same time Microsoft launches Windows Phone 8. Google is likely planning to divert the public’s attention from Microsoft. This is the same thing Apple did with its iPad mini launch. The iPad mini is the rumoured smaller version of Apple’s current tablet. Apple’s event will be kicking off on the 23rd of October, three days prior to the Windows 8-powered surface tablet lands in shops.

The LG Nexus 4 has been leaked in the past weeks, which means that this device may make its debut on Google’s event. It is rumoured to be powered by Android 4.2, which is a minor update to the current version of Android (version 4.1 Jelly Bean). Android 4.2 has also been recently leaked. Accessed by swiping twice from the top of the touchscreen is a second notification bar, which is also the location of ‘Quick Settings”, a new feature.

The LG Nexus 4 is said to be based on the LG Optimus G. It is rumoured to sport a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 768×1,280 pixels, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, but no microSD card. This is strange since the device will offer limited storage, meaning less space to store your music, videos, pictures, and apps.
