First the device’s casing. Then a rumoured release date. Now, pictures of the rumoured iPad mini’s battery have leaked online. The new leak reveals the smaller version of the iPad sporting a 4,490mAh battery, which is thrice as large compared to the battery of the iPhone 5].
An anonymous source sent the pictures of the alleged batteries to MacRumours. The pictures show a Li-on battery with an ‘A1445’ model number as well as a ‘616-0641’ Apple part number.
If you take a closer look at the picture, you will notice that not all the information is printed on the sticker, suggesting that the battery is a prototype part for the rumoured iPad mini.
Unsurprisingly, the battery is approximately three times larger than the battery of the iPhone 5. It is also around a third smaller compared to the battery of the new iPad.
If this is the battery of the rumoured iPad mini, this would mean that it similar to the batteries of rival 7-inch Android tablets. The Google Nexus 7 sports a 4,325mAh battery. The Amazon Kindle Fire HD sports a 4,400mAh battery. As you can see, it pretty much matches with what the competition has to offer.
Other rumoured specs of the iPad mini include a 7.85-inch display (not a retina display like that on the new iPad), a rear-facing camera, and a Lightning connector just like the iPhone 5. According to a recent leak, there will be eight versions of the iPad mini, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions available in Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + Cellular variants.
Although Apple has not officially announced whether the smaller iPad exists or not, it is rumoured to be officially unveiled on the 23rd of October, which is a few days before Microsoft is expected to officially release the Windows 8-powered Surface tablet.
