Apple’s iPad mini is now rumoured to be unveiled on the 23rd of October. Does this mean that we’ll finally get to see the smaller iPad this month?
According to AllthingsD’s sources “familiar with Apple’s plans” the 23rd of October, a Tuesday, is the day the Cupertino firm plans to lift the lid on the rumoured iPad mini. It’s no coincidence that Microsoft will be officially releasing the Windows 8-powered Surface tablet only a few days after.
Rumours of a smaller iPad have been circulating on the internet since the days of the original iPad. Recently, Fortune reported that Apple was planning to send out invitations to press for a special event on the 10th of October, which was believed to be invitations to the launching of the smaller version of the iPad. Sadly, October 10 went by with no invitations received.
Of course, since this is a rumour, don’t expect Apple to unveil a new tablet on the 23rd. However, it would make sense for Apple to do so. Microsoft will be officially releasing the Surface tablet a few days after the 23rd, so the Cupertino firm may be planning to steal the limelight from the Redmond firm.
According to reports, the iPad mini will come with a smaller 7.85-inch screen. It is also said to sport the Lightning connector just like the iPhone 5. Leaked pictures of the device’s components also suggest that the iPad mini will sport a rear-facing camera and a squarish design. Its 7.85-inch display will not be a retina display just like the new iPad, which suggests that it will be cheaper. However, will it be as cheap as the dirt cheap Google Nexus 7? We’ll just have to wait and see.
