Samsung Galaxy S3 mini specs and image leaked

Wondering what the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini will look like and what hardware will be hiding under the bonnet? mobilegeeks.de (a German site) has leaked an image plus specs.

According to the site, the smaller version of the Galaxy S3 will ship running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It will also sport a 4-inch with a resolution of 800×480 pixels, which is disappointing since the S3 sports a 720p display. This, however, means that the S3 mini will be much cheaper compared to its larger brother.

It is said to sport a 1GHz dual-core processor, which is nothing compared to the 1.4GHz quad-core processor of the S3. Other specs include 16GB of storage, a microSD slot for more storage, and a 1,500mAh battery.

Design-wise, it looks exactly like Samsung’s flagship the Galaxy S3. It sports the same rounded edges and the same pearl finish. Sadly, based on these specs, it isn’t a high-end iPhone 5 killer that everyone was expecting. It’s more a mid-range handset. Aside from the design, the only other thing it has in common with the S3 is the name.

Specs-wise, the Galaxy S3 mini resembles the Galaxy S Advance, which is a mid-range handset that also sports a 4-inch touchscreen. This means that Samsung may be taking advantage of the S3’s name to corner the mid-range market, instead of making another high-end handset set to compete with the iPhone.

From entry-level to high-end Android handsets, Samsung has a wide variety of phones in its roster. If it were anyone else, we would think that creating another handset would just create confusion. However, since this the Korean tech giant who has broken profit records after another, they sure to know what they are doing.

Would you be interested in the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, or are you disappointed it’s not the mini version of the highly-popular Galaxy S3? Share your thoughts through a comment on our Facebook page.
