Samsung takes legal action against the iPhone 5

The Galaxy S3 maker Samsung has taken Apple to court, claiming the iPhone 5 violates the Korean firm’s patents.

Apple and Samsung have been at each other’s necks for quite some time now. Now, the Korean tech giant has added the new iPhone to its list of Apple products that it claims infringes on eight of its patents, according to Foss Patents.

Although it’s only now Samsung has taken the iPhone 5 to court, we expected this. After all, it did say that it would be filing a complaint against the new iPhone back in September.

Speaking to CNET UK, Samsung said in a statement, “We have always preferred to compete in the marketplace with our innovative products, rather than in a courtroom. However, Apple continues to take aggressive legal action that will restrict market competition.

“Under those circumstances, we have little recourse but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights.”

This latest legal debacle between the two comes after Samsung lost the biggest tech trial in history, with a jury finding the Korean firm guilty of infringing Apple’s patents resulting in over $1 billion in damages awarded to the Cupertino firm. On top of the $1 billion, Apple is still seeking for another $700 million.

Samsung has suffered an embarrassing loss to Apple, but this doesn’t seem to stop it from filing another lawsuit. It looks like the Korean tech giant is bent on getting the iPhone 5 banned in various places around the world to get back at Apple.

Honestly, tech giant’s squabbling in court is getting to be a serious waste of time and money. We can only hope that they put a stop to all this nonsense and get back to making innovative products. Sadly, this is all wishful thinking.
