According to a new report, Apple may be planning to unveil a smaller iPad within the month with the smaller slate going on sale at the end of the month.
The report comes from Fortune. The site had spoken to an Apple investor who wishes to remain anonymous. The anonymous investor’s ‘multiple sources’ say that invites to the launch of the iPad mini will be sent to press on the 10th of October.
If we’re basing it on Apple’s past habits, it has a tendency to send invites to its events just a few days before the events take place. This is exactly what it did when it unveiled the new iPad. It sent out invitations for a special event, which went on sale days after. This was the same case with the iPhone 5. So, if Apple unveiled the iPad mini on the 17th of October, it’s possible the device would go on sale on the 26th of October.
Of course, this is all speculation. So, take this information with a pinch of salt. However, various sources did suggest that the smaller version of the iPad would be making its debut this month. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Although everything about the iPad mini is based on rumours, it does make sense for Apple to launch the smaller tablet. After all, smaller Android tablets such as the Google Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire have proven to be successful. So, Apple might want to get into the action as well.
Apple is not known for following trends. However, with potential iPad buyers opting to go for the cheaper Android tablets, the Cupertino firm may feel that these 7-inch Android tablets are eating up a portion of Apple’s market share. This might be another reason Apple has considered launching a smaller and cheaper iPad.
