According to new data, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is selling more than the Apple iPhone 5 in the UK. This is despite the new iPhone’s big launch.
According to uSwitch, a comparison site, the Galaxy S3 has outsold the iPhone 5 on UK network deals back in September. However, their figures do not include handsets purchased SIM-free. Despite Apple’s huge iPhone 5 launch, the new iPhone only placed number five on their hotlist.
Despite being officially released on the 21st of September, the iPhone 5 was available for pre-order from the 14th of September. Add these pre-orders with the long queues in front of Apple retail stores and Apple ended up shifting over 5 million new iPhones around the world in the first three days it went on sale. This matched the iPhone 4S’ first month sales, making us expect more sales records to be broken in coming months.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been available in shops since May. You might expect its sales to slow down. However, it is still on top of the list, which means it’s still selling like hotcakes. The iPhone 5 has also been outsold by the Galaxy Ace, Galaxy S2, and iPhone 4S. This shows that buyers are still more interested in getting a bargain than getting Apple’s latest kit.
This report only includes figures taken from phones purchased from deals offered by network operators and not phones that have been purchased SIM-free, so we can’t say for sure if the Samsung Galaxy S3 really does outsell the iPhone 5 in the UK. We’ll have to wait for more data from other sources to know for sure.
