Looking for apps to run on your Android device such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC One X? If this is the case, we have good news for you. Google Play is now offering popular apps for a mere 25p for reaching 25 billion downloads.
The offer will be available for five days. Each day, apps from popular developers such as Gameloft, Rovio, and Electronic Arts will be priced at a bargain. Apps include Officesuite Pro 6, runtastic Pro, Asphalt 7, and Angry Birds Space.
Google’s online store consisting of 675,000 apps will also be offering special collections like 25 must-see movies for rent and 25 best-selling books for just 99p.
On its blog, Google announced, “Twenty-five billion is more than twice the distance, in miles, that the Voyager 1 spacecraft has travelled since its launch 35 years ago. It’s the amount of time, in minutes, that have passed since some of our earliest ancestors began to set foot in Europe.”
Google’s director of digital content, Jamie Rosenberg, also thanked Android users for helping the search giant reach the milestone. Rosenberg said, “We look forward to the next 25 billion.”
Do we doubt Google can do this? Not one bit. Recently, Android hit 500 million global activations with 1.3 million newly activated devices added to that figure each day. It looks like there’s no stopping Google. So we’re pretty sure they’ll hit another 25 billion downloads in no time.
We do, however, think that Google can do better to achieve more downloads. According to a recent survey, 66% of Android users have not paid for the apps they download. If they can convince this 66% to purchase apps, we’re sure they’ll reach their goals in half the time.
