Issue plagues Blackberry handsets on Vodafone

If you’ve signed up for a Blackberry handset such as the 9900 Bold Touch or 9360 Curve with Vodafone, you must have noticed some issues. According to Research In Motion (RIM), they are investigating the problem.

RIM said in a statement to CNET UK, “We are currently experiencing a BlackBerry service issue impacting some users in Europe, Middle East and Africa.”

It adds, “All relevant support teams are working to resolve the issue.” On Twitter, the Canadian firm said that it was “investigating” the issue. Speaking to CNET UK, RIM said that the issue seems to only be affecting customers with Vodafone.

Currently, the issue seems to have been resolved. RIM said in a statement, “Our apologies to any customers impacted by the BlackBerry service issue today. We can confirm that services have been restored and are now operating normally.”

Unfortunately, RIM hasn’t explained the issue in detail, so we’re not exactly sure which services are not working. According to The Telegraph, the current Blackberry outages started at 8am today.

Outages are not new to RIM. Back in the autumn of last year, Blackberry handsets were plagued with issues for a week. The issue affected services such as the internet and the BBM (Blackberry Messenger).

This issue isn’t helping ailing Canadian firm at all and the timing couldn’t have come at a worst time. Crowds have gathered in front of Apple stores, queued for hours waiting to get their hands on the iPhone 5. The new iPhone is about to set the record as the best-selling handset the world has ever seen. The issue may lead Blackberry enthusiasts to ditch their handsets for an iPhone.
