For the whole Summer period the Samsung Galaxy S3 has sat proudly as the ultimate smartphone device with no rival handset really coming anywhere near the phone in terms of features or sales. Things are about to change however now that the iPhone 5 from Apple has been unveiled. In response to the very positive unveiling of the new iPhone Samsung have hit back with an aggressive press advert directly targeting the Apple phone and telling consumers why the S3 remains the very best for phone technology.
Images of the new Samsung Galaxy S3 advertisement have already popped up online and it will reach an even wider audience tomorrow when it is published in numerous US newspapers. In a bid to divert attention away from the iPhone 5 the advert actually offers a direct comparison of key features on the two models rather than focusing purely on what the Samsung device has to offer consumers. This may be seen as a rather underhand method of marketing but Apple and Samsung are fierce rivals with a long history of bad blood. Recently Apple were awarded $1 million damages from Samsung after a lengthy court case. This new ad is the latest instalment in the long running battle between the two companies.
The advert begins with the words “the next big thing is already here”, suggesting that despite the grand entrance of the iPhone 5 the Samsung Galaxy S3 remains the best phone available. A list of features are then listed of which the S3 comes out on top. Not surprisingly some key Apple services such as FaceTime and iOS6 are absent. The advert concludes with the line “it doesn’t take a genius”, a reference to the Genius branding used by Apple on their iTunes software and also their in store advisers. Mock adverts have already appeared favouring the Apple handset with perhaps the most amusing one featuring an identical layout but with the balance firmly tilted it favour of the iPhone 5. The punch line reads “don’t settle for cheap plastic”.
The new Samsung Galaxy S3 advert is an aggressive means of diverting attention from the well publicised iPhone 5. Both handsets remain the very best that money can buy and this is sure to be reflected in end of year sales figures in three months time.
