Images of Nokia’s Symbian Carla leaked

We all knew Nokia’s next update to its Symbian operating system is Carla. However, we didn’t have any information on what the new version would look like, until today. A few images of Carla have been leaked online, which reveals some of its features.

Taking a closer look at the images, the most significant change we see is the lock screen. Nokia has given the familiar Unlock button the boot and replaced it with swipe gestures, which is something we normally see in Android devices.

Another addition is a virtual QWERTY keyboard. This feature is borrowed for Nokia’s Windows Phone-powered handsets, like the on-screen QWERTY keyboard found on the Nokia Lumia 800. In addition, the user interface for the web browser and music player seems to have been enhanced.

Nokiapoweruser claims that Carla “will have major improvements, NFC, Dolby surround; new improved widgets, improved browser (Version 8).”

Symbian handsets that are expected to come with Carla pre-installed are the 603, 700, and 701. The three are expected in between the months of July and September. The C7, C6-01, E6, E7, N8, and X7 will be upgraded to Carla towards the end of this year.

Symbian Anna was the first major update of the Symbian 3 OS. This was followed by Belle, which will then be followed by Carla.
