Speaking to Reuters, Lee Min-hyouk said, “I’ve made thousands of sketches and hundreds of prototype products. Does that mean I was putting on a mock show for so long, pretending to be designing?”
Defending his integrity, he says, “As a designer, there’s an issue of dignity.” When it came to the originality of Galaxy designs, he said that that they are “original from the beginning, and I’m the one who made it. It’s a totally different product with a different design language and different technology infused.”
Lee was the man behind the Galaxy Note, which is 5.3 inch hybrid. According to Lee, the Note’s design was about “breaking a taboo”. He said, “But smart phones are more about entertainment. The Note was created by simply breaking that taboo and focusing more on the new functions that smart phones require.”
Speaking about Jony Ive, Apple’s most talented designer, Lee said that he was no match to designer yet, but says, “I do believe Samsung will produce such iconic products one day.
“It’s not just effort that makes it possible for a new product to be a massive hit. It also has to be timely, and technology should be ready to make a certain design a reality.”
Many believe that the Samsung Galaxy S2 was the best smartphone to come out in 2011. Maybe this is why Apple feels so threatened.
