Windows Phone 8 details revealed – Windows 8 app sharing and more

Details of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 have been revealed. Apps for the mobile platform will also be compatible with the Software giant’s desktop platform Windows 8.

Pocketnow has seen a video in which Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president and director of Windows Phone Program Management, explains the latest version of Windows Phone to its partner Nokia. The Finnish phone manufacturer is Microsoft’s new Windows Phone champion with handsets such as the Windows Phone Mango Lumia 800 as well as upcoming handsets such as the budget WP Lumia 710 and high-end Lumia 900.

One new feature is NFC (Near Field Communication). This will allow users to pay for goods and services by simply waving their phones on a reader. It will also allow users to share content by simply tapping on another NFC-capable device.

The Datasmart live tile is another new feature. The app manages the amount of data used on the handset. Before connecting via 3G network, which will run up the phone bill, it will first try to access the internet via Wi-Fi.

When it comes to apps, apps for Windows 8 will share similar coding with Windows Phone 8, which will allow users to run one app for both platforms. Microsoft hopes that this will attract more developers and users to the platform.

Once Windows 8 arrives, expect Windows Phone 8 to be released alongside Microsoft’s latest OS for PCs.
