GT-I9300 mysteriously shows up on Samsung’s website – is this the Galaxy S3?

A mystery model number (GT-I9300) has just showed up on Samsung’s official website. Is this the highly anticipated Galaxy S3?

The model number shows up in the website’s manual, driver, and software download page for various Samsung products. Model number GT-I9300 can be found in the menu for smartphones.

Why is the GT-I9300 suspected to be the Galaxy S3? Let’s take a look at the model numbers of the past and current handsets. The first Galaxy S bears the model number GT-I90xx. The Galaxy S2 bears the model number GT-I91xx. The Galaxy Nexus (the first to feature Ice Cream Sandwich) bears the model number GT-I9250. See the trend? So, it’s possible the S3 could bear the model number GT-I9300.

So when will we get to see one of the most highly anticipated smartphones of 2012? Sadly, there are conflicting reports on the handset’s official unveiling. According to The Verge, the S3 will be delayed. According to mobile insider, Eldar Murtazin, he has in his possession an S3, which he claims will be unveiled in February and released in April.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to confirm these reports. We’ll just have to wait for Mobile World Congress to kick off in Barcelona next month and see if the Samsung Galaxy S3 is delayed or not.
