LG Optimus 3D 2 leaked

The LG Optimus 3D was the Korean firm’s first 3D handset, which was released back in July of 2011. It seems LG will be launching a follow-up to this handset.

PocketNow has leaked images of a handset codenamed the CX2, which is the Optimus 3D 2. The handset is said to be capable of converting 2D into 3D.

Specs include a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and dual 5 megapixel stereoscopic rear-facing cameras for that 3D effect. It is also said to sport a 3D glasses-free 4.3 inch display. Sadly, according to PocketNow, the handset will ship running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) instead of the latest Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

The Optimus 3D 2’s predecessor failed to make an impact on a market, since it only allowed 3D viewing in landscape mode. Furthermore, there was a lack of 3D content available for the smartphone. We’re hoping LG addresses these issues.

It’s likely the Korean manufacturer will unveil the Optimus 3D 2 next month at MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona.  Another LG handset expected to make an appearance at MWC is the quad-core LG X3. It is said to ship running Ice Cream Sandwich rather than Gingerbread.
