Google boasts 11 billion app downloads and 250 million Android device activations

How many Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Nexus out there? According to Google’s Q4 2011 figures, there are hordes upon hordes of people making use of the Android platform around the world.

To give you an idea on how many Android devices are out there, there were 6.8 million iPhones and Android handsets activated on Christmas day alone. Now, there are more than 250 million activated Android handsets around the world.

Apps from the Android Market are also in great demand. Back in December, Google celebrated its 10 billionth download, selling apps for a mere 10p. The Q4 2011 figures also reveal that the amount of apps downloaded from the Android Market has surged to more than 11 billion. This means that there were more than a billion apps downloaded from the 6th to the 31st of December.

With the ever increasing demand for Android devices and apps, Google reported a quarterly income of $10 billion (approximately £6.457 billion), which is a milestone achievement for the search giant.

Larry Page, Google CEO, said, “I am super excited about the growth of Android, Gmail, and Google+, which now has 90 million users globally – well over double what I announced just three months ago. By building a meaningful relationship with our users through Google+ we will create amazing experiences across our services. I’m very excited about what we can do in 2012 – there are tremendous opportunities to help users and grow our business.”

It seems there’s no stopping Google from pushing forward.
