Ice Cream Sandwich rolling out to a few units of the Motorola Xoom – massive rollout soon

Speaking to CNET yesterday, a Motorola representative said that the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update was rolled out to a few units of the Motorola Xoom for testing purposes. The representative added that Motorola will announce when the ICS update will be rolled out to rest of the tablets.

According to AndroidCentral, an email was sent to a few Xoom users followed by the rollout of the update. Strangely, Motorola did not mention “Ice Cream Sandwich” or “Android 4.0” in their email to a few users.

The email reads, “Thanks for your patience as we’ve waited for this project to begin. Because we are dealing with a Google Experience Device (GED) we have less insight to timing than we would usually have. However, I’m happy to announce that we will start the update this evening. Because it was delayed a few days, we will also have additional time to test; we will let it run through the weekend.”

Currently, the update has rolled out to only a few thousand users of the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi version for testing purposes, according to another blog site Talk Android. Motorola added that the update will roll out on a massive scale once the testing stages have been completed.

Although the ICS update will only be rolling out to a select few, we’re happy to hear Android tablets are starting to receive the much awaited update. We’re hoping other tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will soon follow.
