App statistics reveal Nokia Lumia 900 and Champagne

The Times of India Windows Phone app showing statistics on usage shows the Samsung Focus and the HTC 7 Mozart leading the pack in app usage. In addition to the leaders, it also reveals two more rumored Nokia handsets running the Windows Phone platform. These are the Lumia 900 and the Champagne.

Previously, the Lumia 900 and the Champagne were thought to be one and the same. However, these new findings suggest the two monikers pertain to two different handsets rather than just one.

Why were there speculations that the 900 and Champagne were one and the same? Before the Nokia Lumia 800 was officially unveiled, it was codenamed the SeaRay. The Lumia 710 was known as the Sabre. When the phones were finally introduced by Nokia, they were announced as the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710. This doesn’t seem to be a similar case with the two new Windows Phone-powered handsets.

Other than their names popping up on app statistics, this is also an indication that the phones are being tested out in the wild. We may see these handsets launched sooner than we think. We are likely to see the handsets officially unveiled at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in January or at MWC (Mobile World Congress) in February.
