Samsung killing its notebook line – focusing on tablets instead
If you’ve been wondering what the future lays for notebooks, according to Samsung, the notebook is now dead. On a company memo, the Korean tech giant said that it would no longer be manufacturing notebooks by 2012. If this is the case, what portable computing medium will the company focus on instead?
An internal message from Samsung, titled ‘new 2012 strategy’, the company emphasizes that it will no longer create its 10 inch notebooks by next year. This would make Samsung the first laptop maker to admit that notebooks are now obsolete.
Since Samsung will no longer create notebooks, where does it plan to focus instead? It will focus more on its Galaxy Tab range. These consist of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, and more. These are tablets Apple claims to have copied the design of their iPad 2.
Ever since Apple launched the original iPad, laptops started to fall out of fashion. Another company who recognized the shift in the consumer’s interest is ASUS. They are now focusing more on Eee tablets such as the Eee Pad Transformer. It’s likely other manufacturers will soon follow such as HP, Acer, and Dell.
Do you agree with Samsung that netbooks are dead? Would you rather get your hands on a tablet instead of a notebook? Give us your thoughts.
