No Ice Cream Sandwich for LG Optimus 2X

If you’re one of the owners of the first smartphone that comes packed with a dual-core processor the LG Optimus 2X, we have some unfortunate news for you. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will not be rolling out to LG’s super smartphone.

On the LG ’Life’s Good’ Facebook page, a post reads, “We will not be introducing Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich updates on LG Optimus 2X P990. Keep watching this space for further updates.”

You may be saddened by the news. However, this does not surprise us. How can the Optimus 2X receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update when the Gingerbread update has not yet rolled out to the smartphone? It still runs on the Android OS version 2.2 (Froyo).

Te Guinness Book of World Records recognizes the smartphone as the first dual-core smartphone in the world. Not only did the phone come with a 1 GHz dual-core processor, it also sports an 8 megapixel camera that is capable of recording videos in 1080p.

Despite its success upon launch, its popularity was short-lived. Along came the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation with their 1.2 GHz dual-core processors and 8 megapixel cameras, which made the consumer forget about the Optimus 2X. Furthermore, LG didn’t seem to care since it is apparently putting more effort in marketing the Optimus 3D.
