Blackberry’s New Curve – Blackberry Curve 8980
The Blackberry Curve 8980 is a stylish new model from the ever expanding Blackberry Curve range. Upgrading the existing 8900 the new Blackberry 8980 Curve has one eye on affordability, whilst also ensuring that there is no compromise when it comes to functionality and features.
The new Blackberry 8980 Curve joins the existing and very popular Blackberry Curve 3G 9300 but does lack the 3G service of its sister handset, the Blackberry Curve series is popular with many ‘berry fans’ for its unique wide design, the Blackberry 8980 Curve is no different and manages to keep its price tag down by not opting for the latest Blackberry OS6 but sticking with the OS5 and keeping the 3.2 mega pixel camera from the 8900 model.
The Blackberry Curve 8980 comes with a 2.4 inch TFT display screen, which displays outstanding quality imagery, by virtue of the 65,000 colours it is able display with a 480 x 360 pixel screen size. A touch sensitive optical track pad is provided in the central part of the main front face, which is utilised for effective and simplistic navigation around the enclosed functionality. In addition a QWERTY keyboard is located under the main display screen and provides simple and effective text and data entry.
This new Blackberry Curve phone comes with the ability to utilise either vibration or ring alert options, with the added benefit of being able to utilise MP3 and WAV ringtones as supplementary options to the included versions. The handset comes with a speakerphone which offers hands of free functionality, whilst its phone book and call records, provide the means to recall and retain practically unlimited numbers of entries, whilst also offering photo call functionality.
The 8980 Curve comes with a wide range of connectivity options which include a microSD card slot, which is generally utilised to increase the available memory capacity up to a more substantial 32 GB if desired. In addition Wi Fi and micro-USB connections intertwined with Bluetooth, which is version 2.1 with the added bonus of A2DP. To complete the example of connectivity options, the handset also comes with EDGE and GPRS connections.
The Blackberry 8980 Curve also provides a wide range of entertainment based features which include a 3.2 mega pixel camera that operates at 2048 x 1536 pixels and also includes auto focus, image stabilisation as well as geo-tagging and an LED flash. The same camera can also be utilised to record video as an alternative to still imagery. The handset comes with satellite navigation, which utilises Blackberry maps and comes with A-GPS support, whilst multimedia functionality is provided by the MP4/MP3 multimedia player. The unit also provides an organiser, voice memo/dial facility as well as predictive text input and incorporates the usual features of SMS, MMS as well as e-mail and instant messaging an HTML browser.
The Blackberry 8980 Curve, which is similar in many ways to the Blackberry 9800 Torch, offers extensive levels of technology at an affordable price. Utilising the Blackberry operating system, version 5.0, the handset is aimed squarely at the affordable end of the market.
