The new Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro has now been picked up by four of the big UK networks as well as being offered as a SIM free and unlocked mobile phone so we thought it time to have a closer look at this new Sony Ericsson phone.

Sony Ericsson has added a new dimension to there Vivaz model by adding a slide out QWERTY keyboard; the outcome is the Vivaz Pro. The phone boasts identical specs inside and out to its predecessor with the exception of camera mega pixels and of course the keyboard. There is plenty of choice where messaging is concerned and your online activities are covered by a full web browser and speedy connectivity.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro is aesthetically pleasing to say the least; this is thanks to the slim line, glossy casing and vibrant, colourful 3.3 inch touch display. The keyboard has been mounted on a slider which allows it to slide out from behind the screen. The built-in accelerometer allows for auto rotation; with it you can flip the Vivaz Pro to landscape mode enabling keyboard access and wide screen imagery which is ideal for message creation and web browsing.

Utilizing the Symbian S60 OS the Vivaz Pro experience will be very similar to the experience found on some Nokia phones; widget based menus and an information packed home screen allow for optimum efficiency, and though you will have to settle for resistive touch technology as opposed to capacitive, you will find the on-screen navigation quite responsive. With five available home screens you can install shortcuts for your social networks, web browser and media player. You can also have access points for your favourite contacts direct from the home screen.

As standard the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro supports a number of messaging features. You get SMS and MMS, but e-mail and IM are also supported. This huge amount of choice is all gathered together in one messaging hub. Your text messages can be displayed in conversation form which is great for keeping track of what has been said, your e-mail inbox has also been integrated into the messaging hub to save you from opening multiple applications. You get social network integration with dedicated support for Facebook and Twitter, so being in the know where your friends are concerned is easy.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro relies on Wi Fi technology to connect to the internet; the WebKit browser has easy to use controls for zooming and panning and you can bookmark pages of interest with the handy feature. Though the overall web browsing experience is not phenomenal you are provided with a steady browser, limited Flash compatibility and fast download speeds relying on local WLAN hotspots for a connection.

As for entertainment, the Vivaz Pro has been loaded with YouTube compatibility, a 5MP digital camera capable of HD video and it comes with tons of extras, like flash, auto focus and send to web for instant uploading to social networks and even YouTube. There are some on-board games to keep the mobile gamers happy and Bluetooth, for wireless device communication. The music player will support a multitude of file types including mp3 and it also supports a FM radio tuner. He video player will also playback a number of formats and Sony Ericsson have given the device and expandable memory (microSD up to 32GB) and a 3.5mm jack for headphones.

You can’t fault the Japanese-Swedish alliance for what they are trying to do. They have taken an entertainment focused phone and added a ton of messaging tools, including a full QWERTY keyboard.
