Nexus One – Preview
The Nexus One is the much touted new phone from Google. It is an android based mobile phone that utilises the impressively fast Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD 8250 1 GHz processor. In amongst all of the endearing features included, the Nexus One offers touch screen technology, fast internet access as well as online media interactivity all contained within a unit that measures only 119 mm x 59 mm wide whilst being 11 mm thick.
Connectivity is one of the key elements of this particular handset providing as it does a wide variety of options. Internet access is provided by virtue of its HSDPA and Wi Fi connections which allow the user to surf the web at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. Class 10 versions of GPRS and EDGE are supplemented by the inclusion of blue tooth and micro-USB connections. The handset comes with memory capacity of 4 GB which is provided by the inclusion of a 4 GB SD card. Further memory capacity is provided by virtue of the integrated microSD card slot, which provides the option to increase memory storage up to 32 GB.
As you would expect from an introductory phone by Google, innovation is one of the key elements with such features as active noise cancellation, dedicated microphone, in addition to a digital compass and dedicated search keys. Online web integration with a variety of websites such as YouTube, Google talk and Picasa integration will ensure this handsets popularity. Satellite navigation is provided by virtue of the GPS function which includes A-GPS support.
The handsets colourful 3.7 inch AMOLED display screen offers exceptional depth of colour and imagery of outstanding quality by virtue of its colour display capabilities within its 480 x 800 pixel screen size. The handset includes a trackball navigation feature as well as touch sensitive controls all of which offers multi-touch input functionality. The Nexus One also includes both proximity and accelerometer sensors which Conserves battery power as well as amending image aspect dependent upon the orientation of the display screen.
The handset comes with a 5.0 megapixel camera which also provides several features to aid the photographer, these include autofocus and smile detection as well as an LED flash. The Google Nexus One is the first venture into the mobile phone market by Google, although the handset is actually manufactured by HTC. It is an impressively stylish and eminently usable handset that includes a wide variety of functionality. Its popularity will be down to the availability of plans and networks and of course cost.
