HTC Legend Preview
The HTC Legend is an emphatically functional and stylish handset that utilises some of the advanced technology available to the mobile phone market. The Legend’s use of a Qualcomm MSM 7227 600 MHz processor and the Android operating system, Eclair version, provides an insight into its intentions. This new HTC handset is expected to be released in April 2010 and offers a functionally rich user experience as well as being compact at only 112 mm x 56 mm wide and 11 mm thick.
This new Android device comes with a wide variety of connectivity options which include internet access by virtue of the Wi Fi and HSDPA connections. Offering speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, web surfing is fast and effective in every way. The HTC Legend also comes with GPRS and EDGE connections, both of which are class 10 in addition to blue tooth and miniUSB.
The phones colourful 3.2 inch AMOLED touch screen can display 16 million colours within its 320 x 480 pixel screen size, ensuring that imagery is displayed with an excellent depth of colour and vibrancy. As its primary means of navigation, the handset utilises the sense user interface which is both effective and responsive in equal measure. The inclusion of an optical trackball offers additional navigation options, whilst the addition of an accelerometer sensor provides the means to automate image aspect.
The HTC Legend’s 5.0 megapixel camera provides the means to take effective imagery by virtue of its inclusion of auto focus and the illuminating virtues of an LED flash. Geo-tagging, the means to reference images by location is also included. Video can be taken with this particular unit offering an alternative means of taking imagery.
The handsets internal memory of 384 MB of RAM can be supplemented by making use of the integrated microSD card slot providing the opportunity to increase capacity up to a more creditable 16 GB. Satellite navigation is provided by the GPS function that includes A-GPS support.
Entertainment is provided by virtue of the integrated MP4/MP3 media player and the stereo FM radio with RDS. In addition, several games are also included within the package as well as a variety of web based applications including Google search, maps, Gmail and YouTube and Google talk. The handset provides an organiser as well as a photo editor and also includes a useful voice memo feature.
The HTC Legend is impressively stylish and is conversant with many of the other handsets available throughout the HTC range, including the HTC Desire and HTC HD Mini. Its popularity is down to simplicity of use as well as an effective style which makes it both comfortable to use and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
