Motorola BackFlip – Motorola Dext Repackaged

The new Motorola BackFlip is a new design twist on the existing Dext handset that opts for a ‘flip’ Qwerty keyboard rather than the standard slide-out variety, this new Motorola phone offers much of what is found in the Motorola Dext but the new design makes watching media and quick text input far more entertaining.

Rather than sliding out the Qwerty keyboard from beneath the main screen the Motorola BackFlip already has the keyboard facing the other way on the back of the phone, you simply swing it round to the front which produces a ‘mini laptop’ feel with the screen now hinged in front of you.

It also means that you can use the new hinge design as a stand and watch movies and videos with the Motorola BackFlip on your desk, the specifications are very similar to those of the Motorola Dext with this new phone running Android 1.5 with an upgrade to 2.0 (currently available on the Motorola Milestone) available after launch. There’s still the 5.0 mega pixel camera available but this time it’s set into the keyboard itself on the rear of the phone, the camera also has an LED flash and autofocus.

Other features of the Motorola BackFlip include 3.5G support, expandable memory, 3.5mm audio jack, GPS, WiFi and USB connectivity. The main display is the same 3.1 inch touch screen from the Dext and there is the MOTOBlur service for connecting all of your social media contacts together and giving ‘real time’ on screen updates of what your friends are up to.
