Vodafone Support for Google Nexus One means Cheap Tariffs

Rumours are now abundant on the imminent launch of the new Nexus One Google ‘Superphone’ on Vodafone with the latest non-confirmed date of February 3rd, this was relayed to a Vodafone customer wanting to upgrade to the new Nexus One when their contract runs out on Jan 21st. The caller was informed by the member of Vodafone’s sales staff that they would be able to upgrade to the Nexus One on Feb 3rd.

With Vodafone not actually selling the Nexus One on their website and redirecting all customers to Google’s own product page (www.google.com/phone) AND the lack of any network ties this opens up the market to SIM Only deals, this is where you simply order a pay monthly contract SIM card without taking on a new phone and the savings that would usually have subsidised the cost of a handset are passed on in the form of cheaper line rental charges.

This means that you could take advantage of tariffs that cost just £10 per month! Although there is no inclusive data usage you could then add Vodafone’s internet package for just an extra £5 for unlimited internet access.

The SIM Only tariffs that do include data access start at just £20 per month, the problem is that the data is ‘capped’ at 500mb, considering the Nexus One is a data hungry handset this is not going to last long as was recently revealed by other networks such as O2 who claimed handsets like the iPhone and Blackberry devices were ‘draining’ the network and causing connection problems.

With this in mind, and the fact that anything over and above the 500mb usage is subject to ongoing charges, adding the Vodafone internet bundle looks like great value alongside Vodafone’s SIM Only deals.
