Sony Ericsson’s flagship phone release for 2009 has now been launched as a SIM Free handset, the Sony Ericsson Satio is now available on O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone pay monthly deals but you can now buy this advanced new camera phone without any network ties.
The SIM Free Sony Ericsson Satio is network unlocked, this allows you to simply slip your own SIM card into the phone and carry on using your existing mobile number, although you do pay the ‘real’ price of the phone rather than that with a network subsidy on contract you have the freedom to use whichever network you choose.
This latest release for the Sony Satio means that the handset can now also be purchased as a gift as well as a replacement for a lost or stolen phone.
Review:
The most advanced camera phone from Sony Ericsson to date, the Satio has a 12.1 mega pixel camera with more features than you find in some stand alone digital cameras. There’s red-eye reduction, panoramic stitching, face detection, a Xenon flash, autofocus and image stabiliser giving you the best chance at capturing that perfect picture or video clip. The large 3.5 inch touch screen display is ideal for view-finding as well as playing back your videos and watching downloaded movies.
The Sony Ericsson Satio is a 3,5G enabled device with HSDPA for fast download speeds, there’s also inbuilt Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and USB connectivity for keeping you connected on the move, the Satio runs on Symbians latest S60 5th edition which offers a whole host of support for new applications and programs. These include a comprehensive multimedia player, built-in applications for social networking sites such as Facebook and video support for YouTube, handwriting recognition, auto screen rotate and support for a number of email clients including Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
As we stated before the Sony Ericsson Satio comes with GPS, this is advanced GPS which can be matched with Google Maps for navigation and route finding as well as geo-tagging of pictures, the S60 software also supports a number of other satellite navigation programs for download from the online store.
Other features include TV Out, FM Radio and a WebKit based web browser, there’s also a bundled 8GB memory card in the sale package to get you going.
Opinion:
If you want the latest and the best then the Sony Ericsson Satio is about as good as it gets, the phone does demand a high price tag as a SIM Free handset but you are paying for the freedom that comes with a network unlocked phone.
