Palm Pre Deals – Palm Pre on O2 UK
It’s finally arrived, the latest offering from Palm has been launched exclusively on O2 deals in the UK, the Palm Pre has been one of the most talked about phones ever since it was first announced for release and O2 have secured the exclusive launch of this Palm phone that seems to have the best chance of taking the ‘iPhone Killer’ crown.
The Palm Pre is available on O2 from free at £35 per month line rental, this gives you 600 inclusive minutes to use at any time and to any network as well as 500 text messages, unlimited Wi-Fi usage and unlimited web usage.
Review:
The Palm Pre introduces a whole new operating system to the mobile market, Palm webOS has been completely designed from the ground up and it uses a ‘card system’ for arranging and managing open applications. This works by designating a card to every operation so that they can run side by side on the screen and display discreet notifications along the base of the screen for things like text messages and Facebook updates so as not to interfere with what you are doing.
The contacts section of the Palm Pre has started to be emulated in other new phones such as the Samsung Vodafone 360 H1 whereas you allocate a persons social networking name, twitter account and email address all to one contact and simply select and watch a ticker system of their latest actions.
Palm webOS also integrates with Outlook for easy emailing, Google and Facebook amongst others and there’s a growing online store where you can dowload new apps as you do with the iPhone 3GS.
Getting down to the features and you get a 3.0 mega pixel camera with LED flash, not the highest spec but better than the iPhone, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 2.0 and a good 8GB of internal memory. The Pre features both a 3.1 inch 320 x 480 pixel touch screen display aswell as a slide out Qwerty keyboard for quick text input. There’s also a very nifty wireless charger which means you can plonk your phone down in the vacinity of the Palm Touchstone inductive charger and your little Palm handset will sit and charge happily without the need to plug it in.
Opinion:
Palm devices have always been about personal data management and the new Palm Pre simply takes this to the next level, its fast processor and Palm webOS make for fast and easy navigation around the phones menus as well as seamlessly running multiple applications alongside each other.
A phone for the tech lovers? Well yes but also a phone for those that like to stay organised, discover new and exciting applications and most of all want to get away from the iPhone hype.
